Safeguarding

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

At St Giles, we are committed to ensuring that all people, especially children and adults at risk, are protected from harm. We believe the church must be a safe space to worship, serve, learn, and grow, and we take seriously our duty of care in all aspects of ministry. This commitment is not optional, it is part of who we are as a church rooted in compassion, justice, and integrity.

 

Key principles include:

1. Prevention — to create safe environments and reduce risk.
2. Protection — to respond well to disclosures or suspicions of abuse.
3. Partnership — to collaborate with statutory authorities, diocesan teams, and support services.

4. Transparency & accountability — to maintain clarity in roles and processes.
5. Support & pastoral care — to care for survivors, alleged perpetrators, and those affected.

We expect all clergy, staff, volunteers, and leaders to adhere to this code, and to undertake appropriate safeguarding training.

How to Report a Concern

If you believe someone is in immediate danger, call 999 now.
Otherwise, you can report a safeguarding concern via the Provincial Safeguarding Team (Church in Wales) through their “Report a Concern” page.
